Today was Zoey's baked egg challenge.
We had pancakes and a cake ready to go. The pancakes contained 2 eggs and the cake contained 5.
The test started by cutting a slice of cake into quarters. Every 20 min she got to eat a quarter.
When she finished the cake without any reactions. We moved to the pancake. Same thing, one quarter of a pancake every 20 min. It was such a looooong drawn out process!!!
When she finished the pancake, we had to let everything sit and settle for an hour! Keeping a 3yo in a small doctors office room for 4 hours is not easy!! She did pretty good considering. She had taken some barbies, and they had blocks, books, and a TV/DVD player in the room. So with all of those things, we all made it out alive!
When she had eaten all the food, and done all the waiting, the doctor came in and checked her breathing and airways over, She PASSED! She can now eat most anything that has baked egg in it!
So what did we do when we left the doctor? We took her to the Cheesecake factory and ordered her chicken strips with no special requests! If you have never had to do with a food allergy, you have no idea how exciting that is!!
In August we will take Zoey back to the allergy doctor for another skin test. If her numbers are lower than 6, we will be able to proceed with a scrambled egg test. The doctor said that you grow out of egg allergies in stages and he feels confident that in a year, she will be completely over her allergy!
However, for now, we are so thankful for her getting this far!!
